Getting Ready for Shen Yun’s 2027 World Tour
Shen Yun’s brand-new 2027 season opens December 21, and our artists are busy preparing.
This season, we’ll perform in over 150 cities in 22 countries. Within days of the season premiere in Nantes, France, we’ll be on stage on three continents, with performances opening in Boston, Massachusetts, Vienna, Austria, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
What’s New This Year
“Every year the choreography gets more and more sophisticated, and this year will definitely be a treat,” says Shen Yun dancer Shindy Cai. “We’re also bringing out some unusual props!”
Every season, Shen Yun creates an all-new production, with new dances, music, costumes, stories, songs, and backdrop animation. Even if you’ve seen Shen Yun before, this year’s program will be new to you.
The 2027 production also includes protagonists and villains never seen before on the Shen Yun stage.
Dancer Jessica Li is most excited about the new story dances. “They’ll bring lots of surprises, tears, and laughter!” she says. “You’ll experience a rollercoaster of emotions and will leave the theater feeling uplifted and in a positive state of mind.”
Our Mission
If you’ve seen our billboards, you’ve seen our tagline, “China before communism.” For decades, the Chinese Communist Party has tried to wipe out China’s traditional culture, built over five millennia (deep dive: A Heritage Almost Lost).
“We want to revive what was good and glorious in ancient China,” says Li.
Each Shen Yun dance is a journey through ancient China, drawing from different regions, dynasties, and ethnic groups. The dances bring to life the legends of the past and the values at their heart, such as loyalty, compassion, and integrity.
Twenty Years In
In 2006, our founders came together in New York’s Hudson Valley to create Shen Yun. They did it with a grand vision, but with no government or corporate backing. The first global tour began that same year.
Soon, elite artists from China left everything behind to join the mission.
“I’ve been here at Shen Yun since 2007 and I’ve seen how much it has grown,” says Principal Dancer William Li. “In 2007 we had two touring companies, now in 2026 we have eight!”
“It’s like no other performance in the world,” he says. “The color, artistry, music, backdrop, everything together blends into an experience that you can only experience live at the theater.”
Take a Break from Your Phone
This year’s performance features the same hallmarks of Shen Yun that make it so special, year after year: classical Chinese dance with all its athleticism and expressivity; the live orchestra combining both classical Western and Chinese instruments; the hundreds of handmade costumes, authentic to the attire of ancient China; and the digital backdrops with their delightful surprises.
“At a time where social media and quick dopamine hits are fighting for attention, it’s a real breath of fresh air to sit down to two hours of pure, live artistry—without the distraction of phones” says Cai. “As a dancer, it’s wonderful to be able to connect with the audience and see joy light up their eyes.”
Some 2027 global tour highlights include nine cities in California and 11 in Texas. In Europe, Shen Yun will perform in a whopping 18 cities in France, 11 in the United Kingdom, and nine in Italy. The Asia-Pacific leg of the tour includes 11 cities in Japan, as well as multiple cities in Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. Additional countries and cities are still being added to the calendar, so be sure to check back if you don’t see your city yet.
